We hereunder look at some notorious aberrant variants of the Vulgate, confronting them with the contemporary manner of translating the Bible. By analysing these renderings side-by-side with the original Hebrew text and different ancient translations, we can look at the supposed Latin mistranslations in a different light, in order to discover new particularities of the biblical text.

Full Text | PDF

Lepădarea lui Petru sau despre tirania iubirii

Autor: Daniel Barbu

Pagini: 29-61

Abstract:

A proper theological understanding of love (ἀγάπη) cannot avoid wrestling with the probably most famous conversation on love and certainty ever recorded, which actually closes the Gospels in John 21:15-19. The three questions about love addressed there to Peter by the risen Christ are usually pondered in the mirror of the three denials of Peter during Jesus’ trial recalled by John 18. It is as if a triple affirmation of love had to make amends for the same number of previous rejections of friendship. Drawing on the work of such critical thinkers as Hannah Arendt, Jean-Luc Marion and Giorgio Agamben, the paper strives to shed some fresh light on the relationship between the two contrasting, but arguably inseparable biblical narratives. The analysis points to the idea that both love itself and the works of love cannot become objects of the human artifice. They are not and must not be part of the world that is subject to the sovereign power and indulges in politics. As a compelling form of sovereignty (τῆς ἀγάπης ἡ τυραννίς), according to John Chrysostom, love is a menace and an alternative to any sovereign power that be. The experience of love has to manifest itself within the world itself, but retains always its unworldly nature, as it negates the space the world offers for the recognition of the individual self and the political
practices of sovereignty.

Full Text | PDF

La speranza in Etty Hillesum. We can consider this young woman, died at the age of 29 in the concentration camp of Auschwitz, as one of the courageous ethical militants who opposed themselves to the destruction of humanity planned by the totalitarianism. Against those who denied the anthropological and spiritual foundations of the human being, Etty responded with hope, compassion and confidence in the human capacity for redemption, helping others in the inner presence of God.

Full Text | PDF

O deconstrucție a responsabilității

Autor: Gabriela Blebea Nicolae

Pagini: 77-103

Abstract:

The substantive responsibility implies the formal responsibility as a condition of its manifestation. But, when the formal responsibility is only a bureaucratic one and it is extremely fragmented, it blocks the substantive responsibility. This is the case of the protection system of social orphans in Romania. Here many children spend their whole life until they leave, due to the age appointed by law, the hosting social institution. By its employees, the state pretends to play the role of a social parent, but in fact it is only involved.

Full Text | PDF

Pierre Boutang héritier de Gabriel Marcel? We wrongly held that Boutang is the heir of the very controversial Charles Maurras, while the author of the book Ontologie du secret has inherited a philosophy line called “Thinking of Christian Existence”, of which Gabriel Marcel is inexorably a member. Thus, it is worth asking if Pierre Boutang would not be in fact the heir of Gabriel Marcel; after that we find a common point regarding the critic of nihilism which conduces us to the attitude of a watcher, we show that less than a relationship between pupil and master, there is a real dialogue between the two philosophers that we have to keep, to continue, so that to bring the reader on intersubjectivity path.

Full Text | PDF

Data Paștilor. This paper is an echo of the Romanian programme “Science and Religion” that was conceived as an attempt towards unity. Knowledge of astronomy, history and theology allows scientists and theologians alike to rigorously establish the date for the Easter celebrations. Hence the idea that, at the beginning of the 3rd millennium of the Christian era, the acceptance of these dates for Easter would constitute a first step towards the fulfilment of the mutual desiderate for Christian unity. This paper endeavours to explain that Easter depends on both time and place. There is a time for Easter specific to every place on Earth—in the northern hemisphere as well as in the southern hemisphere. Spring is the time of Easter, a beginning, a spiritual renewal.

Full Text | PDF

Apărarea drepturilor omului la Jacques Maritain și Umanismul integral. O viziune personalistă asupra credinței și politicii pentru vremurile noastre

Autor: Michael D. The principles stated by Maritain, alongside his method of practical thinking, may inspire a post-liberal and post-libertarian vision of human rights.

Full Text | PDF

Un plaidoyer pour l’égalité des hommes au XIIIe siècle?

Autor: Mihaela Voicu

Pagini: 193-205

Abstract:

At a first glance, the discourse on “true nobility” in the continuation of the Roman de la Rose by Jean de Meun seems revolutionary: hereditary aristocracy is questioned—although it meant a reality that had been accepted by the Medieval society for at least three centuries—while proposing instead the “nobility of the heart”, of one’s deeds and merits. I fructified my Romanian experience of that “common good” which used to be imposed during communist times. Then, briefly I described the causes of this crisis and I formulated a definition of the common good by resorting to reason and faith. Thus, the common good is the reason for which a society has been constituted. According to the Christian faith the common good reaches its fullness in the eternal life. I advocated the cause of education in the light of an integral common good, insisting upon the necessity of verifying the social force and actuality of certain principles such as freedom, truth, solidarity, justice, peace. Today’s social and cultural context is less favorable to this type of education. It enlists several impediments, such as the religion of the ego, the generational selfishness, the educational urgency. The paper seeks to answer certain challenges: man’s need for mystery, active and participative citizenship, the secularization of social life. In conclusion, I searched for new ways to actively participate in promoting the common good.

Full Text | PDF

Noutăți editoriale

Recenzii de: Mihaela Voicu

Pagini: 231-237

Full Text | PDF

Cronică

Autor: Iulia Cojocariu

Pagini: 239-241

Full Text | PDF

Events

Autor: Iulia Cojocariu

Pagini: 243-245

Full Text | PDF

Reflecții hermeneutice biblice pornind de la câteva presupuse erori ale Vulgatei Autor: Wilhelm Tauwinkl Pagini:…

["post-132","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
